PAX East 2011 Wrap-up

Last weekend, Boston played host to PAX East 2011, and the mood here at Turbine was a potent blend of anticipation and excitement! Weeks prior to the three-day-event, untold conversations revolved around getting the Turbine party, contests, and booth organization just right. All our expectations were more-than-met between Friday, March 11th and Sunday, March 13th; and in our desire to say thank you to everyone who plays our games and participates in our communities, we've put together a post-PAX East wrap-up to share our wonderful memories.

The Booth

Welcome to the WB Games booth for PAX East 2011! Our crew had a blast hanging out with DDO and LOTRO fans and fellow family members of WB Games alike.

The WB Games booth's front desk was staffed by friendly greeters, and had a "handy" hand sanitizer dispenser (yes, that joke came up more than once during the show). Lesson learned by many at PAX East: Half-pump only or you'd get far more sanitizer than you'd like!

In addition to hand sanitizer (exciting, right?), there was tons of free swag for WB Games titles at PAX East! The black dragon pins were especially well-received; you can never go wrong with an awesome dragon.

Plenty of videogame media came by, including G4TV's X-Play crew! Everyone was incredibly friendly as they checked out all the WB Games' titles on display, and it was a pleasure meeting each and every member of the gaming press. Be on the lookout for coverage of DDO's Update 9 and LOTRO's Update 2: Echoes of the Dead around the web!

The Party

On Friday night we held a fan appreciation party with food, drink, and plenty of ways to win awesome Asheron's Call, LOTRO and DDO goodies! We had a blast talking with our players, and the whole night was full of good times and warm stories of adventures through Dereth, Eberron and Middle-earth.

The Contests

We wanted to do something special for attendees who stopped by our booth during PAX East – enter contests for DDO and LOTRO lifetime VIP memberships.

Aside from LOTRO and DDO kiosks running live servers, we had a separate contest kiosk for each game where attendees could line up and try their hand at taking the top spot on our leaderboard for the day.  Players were tasked with collecting as many crystals as they could in the kobold miner challenge from DDO’s Euphonia’s Challenge, or survive for over 8 minutes in the Barrow-downs skirmish from LOTRO.

Once attendees got a taste for DDO's three minute kobold miner challenge, it wasn't long before we had questions along the lines of, "Can I get back in line and try again?" Our answer was always, "Yes!" and throughout the entire weekend we had teams vying for the top spot on our leaderboards each day.

Over the course of PAX East 2011, we gave away 25 lifetime VIP memberships!

Team Amazing (pictured above) even had a quote for us! “We had so much fun participating in the DDO Pirate event. We had a great time and enjoyed the small but friendly rivalries that developed while we played. We met a lot of great people and we cannot wait to dive into the game with our new accounts! Thanks!" Right back at you, Team Amazing!

Most importantly, thank you to everyone who stopped by to play our games, get swag, and shared in the amazing and fun spirit of PAX!
